Congratulations on progressing to the next chapter of your solar journey with the completion of your system installation by Intrepid Power! This guide is designed to help you navigate the subsequent steps after installation, covering everything from activating your inverter, and tracking your energy production, to maximising the benefits of your solar system.
Post-Installation Safety Verification
Following the installation of your solar system, a mandatory safety verification and system assessment is required by energy authorities.
This compliance certification process varies by state, with different names and regulations.
Some examples include:
New South Wales: Certificate of Compliance Electrical Work (CCEW)
Queensland: Electrical Safety Certificate
Victoria: Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES)
In Queensland and New South Wales, the installer, at the time of installation, conducts a comprehensive system check and issues a Compliance Certificate. These certificates might be audited by external inspectors occasionally, but this is not a routine practice.
In Victoria, Intrepid Power arranges for an independent solar inspector to visit your installation, ensuring the system’s compliance and safety according to current standards. This inspector then provides a Compliance Certificate which Intrepid Power processes.
Grid Connection and Approval
After the Compliance Certificate (COC) is issued post-inspection, Intrepid Power initiates the Electricity Work Request (EWR).
The EWR is a formal request to your electricity distributor, seeking approval to connect your solar system to the electrical grid. It contains detailed information about your solar setup. Once it's approved, your system gets connected to the grid, enabling you to generate solar energy and potentially earn credits for excess power.
Energy Provider Notification and Meter Configuration
Once Intrepid Power completes your solar system installation, and if it’s a new setup (not an upgrade), we will contact your energy provider (e.g., AGL or Origin) to arrange for your meter configuration. This step is crucial for ensuring that your system is fully operational.
Your energy provider will inform you when your solar meter configuration is complete. If you haven’t heard from them within 28 days of installation, it is advisable to follow up. Please note that Intrepid Power will not be contacted by your energy provider regarding your account or meter setup.
A word of caution: Refrain from changing your Electricity Provider at this stage. You can consider switching providers once your new solar meter is installed and functional.
Wi-Fi Connection and Inverter App Configuration
If you haven’t set up your Wi-Fi and inverter app during the installation, it’s still possible to do it manually. Simply download the monitoring app for your inverter, enter your Wi-Fi details, and follow the instructions to pair it with your inverter. For assistance, refer to our guide 'Connecting Your Inverter Wi-Fi'.
Inverter Activation
After receiving confirmation from your energy provider about the operational status of your new solar meter, you can proceed to activate your solar system. The process of turning on your inverter is straightforward and is detailed in our 'Turning On Your Inverter' guide. This will allow you to start generating your own clean energy efficiently.
Monitoring Solar Energy Production
The inverter’s monitoring app, now connected to your Wi-Fi, simplifies the tracking of your solar energy production. It provides real-time insights into your energy usage and production. Some users also prefer to check the inverter unit directly, which features a digital display showing essential statistics like current solar output. Regular monitoring, whether through the app or on the inverter display, is advised to keep track of your system’s performance.

Federal Solar STC Rebate: This involves a straightforward step to complete your claim. You will receive an email from Origin (handling Intrepid Power’s STC claims) to confirm/sign a statement regarding your installation. Ensure to respond to this email promptly when it arrives.
Solar Victoria Rebate: Your application should have been completed with the provider QR code scanned by our installers on the day of installation. Intrepid Power will contact you if any additional steps are required to confirm this rebate.

They will be your main contact and will handle all paperwork and admin, including confirming your installation date, dependent on grid approval.
Tech Check
Intrepid Power conducts a "tech check" to verify your solar installation plan. An Accredited Engineer will remotely review your home, roof, and planned solar installation, ensuring the right products are ordered and the system is tailored for your home. For complex installations, a site visit may be arranged.
Grid Connection Application
Post-engineer approval, our tech team submits a Grid Connection Application to your Energy Distributor, ensuring grid compliance and readiness. Intrepid Power manages this process, covering all permissions and technical checks.
Installation Date Confirmation
Once your connection application is approved, which can vary in time, we will confirm a suitable installation date with you. This includes stock allocation, quality assurance checks, and coordinating with our CEC accredited installers. A final confirmation of installation details will be communicated to you.
Meter Box Upgrade
Most homes are already equipped with a smart meter, which can be reconfigured remotely post-installation by your energy retailer. However, some may require a meter box upgrade, determined during the site assessment. The timing of this upgrade varies.
Energy Retailer Change
If considering a switch in Electricity Retailers, please wait until after your solar meter installation. Changing retailers during installation could cancel your Connection Application and cause delays.
Inverter App Download
Download the Inverter app before installation to monitor your solar system's performance. Having the app ready streamlines the installation process, enabling quick connection to your Inverter.
Securing Your Rebate(s)
Intrepid Power handles your federal government rebate application. For eligible Victorian customers, ensure you have received an email from Solar Victoria with instructions for the $1,400 solar rebate and loan application. Contact us immediately if you haven't started this process or haven't received the email, as installation cannot commence without Solar Victoria rebate approval.
Roof Preparation
If you plan any roof maintenance or painting, complete these tasks before installation day. This ensures a smoother installation and avoids later panel removal for maintenance.
