Energy Independence:
Generate and store your electricity, reducing grid dependence. Purchasing power during peak times typically means that the sun isn't shining. Like on a cloudy, muggy day when you really want to use the aircon, a battery helps you overcome price humps. This is called - Load Shifting. With most batteries, you can even help others in the grid during these spikes, which is profitable.
Cost Efficiency:
Enjoy significant savings on your electricity bills. Having a battery now that solar feed-in tariffs lower, around 2-8c/kwh means you're able to hang on to your solar for when you really need it instead of dumping it on the grid when the network doesn't need it. Excess cheap solar on the grid is referred to as the duck curve.
Chemistry matters - down to the cells.
When it comes to battery storage, the chemistry behind it plays a crucial role in safety and performance. At Intrepid Power, we emphasise the importance of battery chemistry, offering options that prioritise safety without compromising efficiency.
LFP (LiFePO4) Batteries:
LFP (LiFePO4) Batteries: Used by brands like SolarEdge, BYD, and Fronius, these batteries are known for their stability and safety. The LiFePO4 chemistry reduces the risk of thermal events and offers a longer product life, making it a reliable choice for home energy storage.
Superior "throughput": think of this as the number of kMs on the warranty on your car, but in the case of a battery, this unit is kW/h, just like on your power bill. LFP batteries vary in throughput, so always take note of exactly how many miles you're paying. For example, a half-price battery with a quarter of the throughput on the warranty may not be the bargain it's cracked up to be.
When you add on the cost of replacement, it is likely that some battery companies will still be in Australia by the time the battery is out of warranty. The hidden cost of cheap batteries can start to add up.
Lithium-Ion Batteries:
Currently used by Tesla, these are the same high-energy-density batteries found in their electric vehicles. While they offer advantages in terms of weight and size, we're closely monitoring the industry's move towards safer alternatives like LFP in future Tesla products.
