How to Get Started

Wallbox offers a range of smart EV chargers, including models like the Pulsar Plus, Pulsar Max, and Pulsar Pro. These chargers are designed for home use and are known for their compact size and powerful performance. The Pulsar Plus model, for example, offers 240V, Level 2 charging technology and can add up to 30-35 miles of range per hour. It also features adjustable capacity from 16A to 48A, depending on the model. Notably, the Pulsar Plus can be controlled via the myWallbox app using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, allowing users to monitor and manage their charger remotely. It also supports voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Additional features include integrated DC leakage protection and options for energy management upgrades like Eco-Smart and Power Boost

Wallbox's Quasar 2 is a next-generation bi-directional DC charger that stands out for its ability to enable electric vehicles (EVs) to power homes, even during power outages.

This charger allows energy to be pulled from the EV and either sent back to the grid or used to power a home. The Quasar 2 is particularly powerful, offering 11.5kW for faster EV charging and discharging, and is more compact for easy installation. Its versatility is a key feature, allowing it to be used daily or during power outages.

The Quasar 2 also features a Power Recovery Mode, which uses the EV battery to power a home in the event of a power outage. This mode can seamlessly transition the home’s power source from the grid to the vehicle.

Additionally, the Quasar 2 offers vehicle-to-home (V2H) functionality, enabling users to charge their vehicle during off-peak hours and use that energy to power their home during peak hours.

The vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality allows users to send energy back to the grid, potentially receiving discounts on energy bills. The charger is also solar charging compatible, allowing users to charge their EV using solar energy and reduce grid dependency

Wallbox is working with Kia America to bring bidirectional charging to Kia EV9 customers, with Quasar 2 expected to be the first complete solution CCS bidirectional charger offered to these customers starting in the first half of 2024.

The collaboration aims to enable EV owners to charge and discharge their electric vehicle to power their home or send energy back to the grid. Quasar 2 can power a typical household for up to four days during a blackout, removing the need for expensive home energy storage systems

Fronius offers the Wattpilot, an intelligent EV charging solution designed for both home and on-the-go use. It's available in two versions: the Wattpilot Home, which is a fitted charger for home use, and the Wattpilot Go, a portable solution for charging on the road. Both versions come in 11 kW and 22 kW power categories and can be mounted indoors or outdoors. 

The key features of the Fronius Wattpilot include:

  •  Eco Mode: Ideal for PV system owners, allowing the vehicle to be charged with self-generated solar power or the cheapest mains current available.-

  • Next Trip Mode: This mode ensures that the electric car is reliably charged for a specified journey by a certain time, utilising surplus PV power or the cheapest mains current.-

  • Solar.wattpilot App: The charger can be easily controlled via a smartphone or tablet, allowing users to select charging modes, change settings, and view charging data.-

  • Security & Control: The charger can be secured with an RFID chip or card, supporting up to 10 user profiles.

The Fronius Wattpilot leverages the potential of solar power, enabling users to charge their EVs using surplus energy from their PV systems, thereby increasing self-consumption and reducing energy costs. It represents a smart and flexible solution for EV charging, especially for those who already have or are considering installing solar PV systems.

Deep Solar integration

Vehicle to Grid capabilities at some point in the future

Fronius' current EV charging solutions, particularly the Wattpilot, offer intelligent and flexible charging for electric vehicles, but they don't specifically mention Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities.

The Wattpilot focuses on efficient charging using solar power, with features like Eco Mode and Next Trip Mode for optimising charging based on solar generation or specific travel needs.
